George Zimmerman Civil Case: Holder Suggests DOJ Will Investigate Rights Violations

Impact

Now that the NAACP has released its petition seeking a civil rights case against Zimmerman and it has received more than a quarter of a million signatures, the public has heard a response from the Attorney General Holder who has expressed concerns for the case.

The Department, working in tandem with the FBI, is currently looking for evidence to determine whether the case can be prosecuted.

“We are resolved, as you are, to combat violence involving or directed at young people, to prevent future tragedies and to deal with the underlying attitudes, mistaken beliefs and stereotypes that serve as the basis for these too common incidents," Holder said at the social action luncheon of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority on Monday. "And we will never stop working to ensure that — in every case, in every circumstance, and in every community — justice must be done.”

As America still doubts the fairness of the verdict, the public should continue to fight until it has seen that the Justice Department has done all it could to ensure that outcome of the Zimmerman case was appropriate.
