George Zimmerman Protests Have Now Spilled Into the Florida Governor's Office

Impact

Yesterday in Tallahassee, supporters of Trayvon Martin walked into the Florida state capital building with a purpose. One woman shouted "Whose world is this?" The crowd responded, "The world is ours." The chant continued until the group reached the outer office of Florida Governor Rick Scott.

Over 75 supporters bearing signs saying "The State is Ours" demanded that the governor call a special session of the legislature to address the Stand Your Ground Law.

As the business day drew to a close, the doors for the state building were closed and locked, but 30 supporters remained inside, vowing not to leave until they received an audience with the governor. These indviduals were members of an organization known as Dream Defenders, whose mission is to "bring social change by training and organizing youth and students in nonviolent civil disobedience, civic engagement, and direct action while creating a sustainable network of youth and student leaders to take action and create real change in their communities."

Today, more than 200 are expected to join the non-violent protest.
