You'll Never Guess What This Radio Host Offered Rachel Jeantel

Hopefully I am not alone in saying that I am tired of hearing bad things about Rachel Jeantel. Ever since she took the witness stand two weeks ago,  Jeantel has been the butt of jokes and criticism. So here is some good news. Some great news, actually. Rachel Jeantel just got a full ride to college.

After Tom Joyner, a radio personality, met Jeantel on his show this Tuesday, he vowed to pay for her to attend the HBCU (Historically Black College or University) of her choice. Joyner took his promise a step further, and even pledged to find and pay for all the college prep tools she needed.

Joyner told her, “If you want to graduate from high school, and go to an HBCU, even if it’s not in Florida but especially Florida, like Florida Memorial, Edward Waters or FAMU, if you want to do that, I want to help you do that. I will help you get tutor to get out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT and I will give you a full ride to any HBCU you’d like.”

During the interview, Joyner expressed that he was moved by her testimony about Trayvon Martin.

"I love you," he said. "I really love you. You really touched me."

There are about 100 HBCUs in the United States. So Jeantel could get out of Florida as soon as she walks across the graduation stage. Upon hearing Joyner’s proposition, she thanked him.

Along with running the Tom Joyner Show, he also founded the Tom Joyner Foundation, which provides financial assistance to students at historically black colleges and universities. That fund will pay for her college education should Jeantel do her part to follow through.

And let’s hope she does. Success has never been so easy to come by.
