Boys Wear Skirts To School To Stay Cool

When a heat wave hit the United Kingdom, these boys from Whitchurch High School in Cardiff Wales weren't going to put up with a shorts ban while girls were allowed to walk around in skirts. Why would they be forced to sweat their butts off in pants? What was so shameful about showing some leg just because they were male? When the school refused to adapt its uniform policy to the unusually warm weather, the boys decided to stage an unusual protest. They showed up to school in skirts, and boy, did it get some attention.

To the students and their parents, the no-shorts ban isn't just constraining, it's a health issue. One of the boys involved in the protest was 15-year-old Tyrone Evelyn. He told the Mail Online that the no shorts policy was distracting him from his school work. "Over the last few days I’ve had a few headaches and skin irritations because I’ve been too hot [...] Girls can wear skirts, so I don’t see why we can’t wear shorts," he said.

According to Neetzan Zimmerman at Gawker, their protest didn't last for very long, because they were called into the headmaster's office. The administration was not happy, nor were they ready to budge.

It still didn't stop every major news outlet to cover the protest. Hopefully this will give enough impetus to the school to act on this ridiculous policy.
