Asma Assad And Bashar al Assad Emails Show Syria's President Is Isolated

Recently leaked e-mails of Syria's Assad family gives us a sneak peak into the dilusional and isolated dictator. Assad has lost touch with reality, and it's only a matter of time now before he will face the same fate as all isolated dictators.

Approximately 3,000 emails showed Assad's wife, Asma Assad as an advanced buyer of online luxury goods. Candles, candlesticks, tables and yes, a fondue set were some of the new arrivals at the Assad house. With civil war raging next door, somebody has to celebrate. Or, as a Dutch commentator said in leading Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad: "The bad smell of cheese makes the smell of dead bodies dissapear."

Now the EU has stepped up pressure on Assad sanctioning his closest relativesanew. No more candles, fancy undergarmets and glittering jewelry. The EU has barred his wife, mother, sister and sister-in-law from travelling in the EU and has frozen their bank accounts and other assets according to The Guarduan. There’s only one problem: Asma al-Assad is exempted from the ban because she is a UK national and may still travel to Britain. According to the Guardian, "It is important to note that sanctions are imposed on individuals to encourage them to change their behaviour," said a British government source. "The imposition of sanctions would not lead to automatic arrest or action to deprive someone of their nationality." 

Bashar al-Assad, a big fan of Itunes, danced around the garden and screamed: ‘I'm too sexy, I'm too sexy’,  one of the songs he downloaded the day before. Exhausted of running around and drenched by the garden sprinklers he went back inside, looked for his Macbook Pro and started forwarding youtube links explaining the details of some future attacks that literally used cookies and latest toys to represent his military.

Sadly, Assad has become an isolated dictator. He will eventually face the same fate as his peers. Polish journalist Ryszard Kapuscinski wrote a great book observing Haile Selassie, former emperor of Ethiopia. Orwell took us to the farm to show how people can become corrupted over time. 

By writing and describing the phenomenon it gives some comfort. It has been reported Assads mother has called for a retreat out of Syria. I hope we can spot her soon on fifth avenue or Londons New Bond Street. If the words of our mothers are not respected anymore the end is near.
