Chelsea Manning (formerly Bradley) announced she will live the rest of her life as a woman in a statement read on the Today Show on Thursday. However, the military prison where Manning will serve her time has already rejected her request for hormone therapy. Manning’s lawyer says he will take legal action if the prison does not change its mind. Past cases suggest Manning may win her case: Courts have ruled withholding gender reassignment therapy constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.
