Forget Impeachment! This Christian Host Wants a Military Coup Against Obama

On a Monday internet broadcast, evangelist Rick Joyner called for a military coup to overtake the Obama administration. Otherwise, the Morning Star TV host proclaimed that American democracy was "doomed." Joyner also opined that God should assert martial law over the United States.

In the video, the evangelist referred to "potential tyranny from the executive branch." Most likely, Joyner is referring to Obama's signature piece of legislation, the Affordable Care Act. It is quite questionable to equate the Affordable Care Act with tyranny. After all, Congress legitimately passed the legislation, and the Supreme Court upheld its constitutionality. The 2012 election, to a considerable degree, became a referendum on Obamacare. President Obama handily won re-election. Is the Affordable Care Act a perfect piece of legislation? No. But equating Obamacare with with tyranny is simply outrageous.

Many conservatives have uttered similarly hyperbolic comments. During Ted Cruz's recent faux-filibuster, he compared Obamacare supporters to Nazi appeasers. Such utterances reveal that modern-day conservatism is becoming increasingly unhinged. Conservatism, once so intellectually strenuous, has become a haven for fanatics.
