George Clooney On Typhoon Haiyan: Ignoring Climate Change is "Ridiculous"
Denying climate change is ridiculous. Denying mankind's role in it is even more ridiculous.
As Typhoon Haiyan hit the shores of the Philippines (eventually killing over 10,000 people and leaving more than 50,000 homeless), the other side of the globe saw George Clooney railing against climate change skeptics on the red carpet at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.
"It's just a stupid argument," Clooney said vehemently, citing the fact that 97% of scientists agree that global warming trends are caused by human activity. And as studies show that this warming is making our weather disasters more severe, the stakes are no longer just political anymore. The health and safety of people across the world are at stake.
Besides, in Clooney's words, even if it's not true, "What's the worst that could happen? We clean up the Earth a little bit?"
