The Affordable Health Care Act was passed under the guise of providing healthcare for all residents in the United States, but despite this some twelve million US residents are excluded. I speak of the nation's illegal immigrant population. Regardless of one's view on illegal immigrants, the fact is that they aren't going anywhere for the time being and are currently eligible for emergency healthcare services. Preventive care provided under the Affordable Health Care Act would be cheaper to provide than emergency services. Would it be a cost to US taxpayers? Yes, but it'd be a smaller cost than the current costs of providing emergency services. The Affordable Health Care Act should be expanded to the nation's illegal immigrant population not out of compassion, belief in human rights, or any of that mumbo jumbo, but simply because it'd be good fiscal policy.
