You Saw Pornhub's MLK Tweet Yesterday, But Did You See Their Even Crazier Apology?

Impact

OK, so we know that corporate brands sending out holiday- and anniversary-themed tweets can be bad, but Pornhub took things to a new level Monday.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., the pornography website's official Twitter account (which remains unverified by Twitter – do with that what you will) posted this tweet:

Where's a facepalm GIF when you need one? There are just some tweets that should remain in the drafts folder. One using MLK to promote "ebony" porn is probably near the top of the list.

Not only that, but the tweet completely misses the point of King's philosophy. I don't know exactly what King's views on pornography were, but I'm fairly confident he wouldn't want to promote one skin tone over another. Realizing their mistake, Pornhub posted an "apology" tweet:

Yea, not sure if that fixes anything.

But are Pornhub's 275,000+ followers really looking for thoughtful tweets? Considering these two tweets have thousands of retweets and favorites, I'm guessing they played pretty well with Pornhub's audience. And if this is the kind of cringe-worthy tweeting we can expect from Pornhub, I'm anxious to see what's in store for Presidents' Day.

Still, Pornhub's MLK tweets are a classic example of how not to do Twitter. Another one of life's great lessons: There just isn't a tasteful way to link MLK and porn.
