13 Greatest Life Lessons Mr. Feeny Taught Us on 'Boy Meets World’

Culture

When it was announced last year that Disney was filming a pilot of Girl Meets World, a sequel to the amazing 90s series Boy Meets World, the 20-somethings on the Internet collectively lost their shit. Once it was confirmed that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel were coming back as Cory and Topanga, some people almost went into cardiac arrest. And now that we've found out a full first season has been ordered for production, I'm a little worried about how millennials will be able to take the news without freaking out too hard.

So far, we know that Girl Meets World will be set in New York City and follow the lives of Cory and Topanga's daughter Riley Matthews and her quick-witted friend Maya (aka girl-Shawn). Cory will basically become the new Mr. Feeny, as a seventh grade science teacher who offers the students life lessons.

Now, Cory's great and all, but Fe-he-he-he-heeny is kind of irreplaceable. So in his honor, here are 13 life lessons the great Feeny offered throughout the show's seven seasons.

1. On Love

"There is no greater aspiration than to have love in our lives, Mr. Matthews. Romeo knew it and died for it."

Season 1, Episode 1

2. On Education

"You see Mr. Matthews, education is not about obscure facts and little test scores. Education is about the overall affects of years of slow absorption. Concepts, philosophies, approaches to problem solving. The whole process is so grand and all-encompassing that it really can't be threatened by the occasional late-night no-hitter. It is important that a boy spend time with his father."

Season 1, Episode 3

3. On Friendship

"It's the time of year that you can think back and appreciate the real gifts you received. Friendship, for example, is a real gift. And it's given with no expectation and no gratitude is necessary. Not between real friends. You think about that."

Season 1, Episode 10

4. On Parents

"There is no model household. There are no model parents. A family is a living breathing thing that requires constant adjustment and change."

Season 1, Episode 15

5. On Being A Husband

"On the husband highway, there's very little forward traffic. Just a million men backing up furiously."

6. On Being Yourself

"If you let people's perception of you dictate your behavior, you will never grow as a person."

Season 2, Episode 16

7. On Your Future

"Ah the old nature vs. nurture conundrum. Personally I believe that a man, no matter where he comes from, chooses his own path."

Season 2, Episode 19

8. On Being a Hero

"Different things to different people, I suppose. A firefighter can be a hero. I knew a man who worked in a factory for 30 years at a job that he hated. It was the only way he could support his family. I felt that he was a hero. But to me, a real hero is someone who does the right thing when the right thing isn’t the easy thing to do."

Season 3, Episode 5

9. On Family

"You don't have to be blood to be family."

Season 3, Episode 17

10. On Love (Again)

"I believe that when you find love you hold onto it and cherish it because there is nothing finer and it may never come again. And that, my dears, is the most important thing I could teach you."

Season 4, Episode 17

11. On Technology

"Guttenburg's generation thirsted for a new book every six months. Your generation gets a new webpage every six seconds. And how do you use this technology? To beat King Koopa and save the princess. Shame on you. You deserve what you get."

Season 4, Episode 19

12. On Life

"We live in a random and chaotic universe"

Season 4, Episode 19

13. On Doing Good

"Believe in yourselves. Dream. Try. Do good."

Season 7, Episode 23
