This Icelandic Police Force Has the Most Adorable Instagram Account You've Ever Seen

The news: Meet the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police, serving the capital of Iceland. By the looks of their incredible Instagram account, a normal day includes holding kittens, eating candy and wearing false mustaches.

The account, which has more than 21,000 followers, has been active since 2012. It's unclear who on the force runs it, but it's obvious they're having a grand old time — the officers can be seen riding bikes, rescuing costumed children and eating piles of donuts.

Though this is no doubt a particularly positive representation of Reykjavík's police force (it is run by them, after all), it's still pretty great to see a law enforcement agency that doesn't appear to have an overwhelmingly combative approach to its job.

This kind of behavior may seem lackadaisical to some, but it seems to be working. Iceland experienced its first police shooting death ever in 2013, and according to a 2011 United Nations study on global homicide, the country's homicide rate between 1995 and 2009 hovered around 1% per 100,000 people. Compare that to the United States, which had a homicide rate of about 5% during the same time period.

In contrast to the TSA's Instagram account, which shows all the terrifying and violent things that agency collects on a daily basis, Reykjavík's officers look like the kind of people you wouldn't mind hanging out with.

Take note, America: This is how you really protect and serve.
