Robert Pattinson Cheating Scandal: Star Eats Ice Cream on the Daily Show to Get Over Kristen Stewart

Actor Robert Pattinson made an appearance on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart on Monday night for the first time since his breakup with Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart. The talk show host pulled out two pints of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream as a consolatory post-breakup treat, but Pattinson did not bring up Kristen Stewart.

Jon Stewart did his best to relieve tension in the interview: "We're just a couple of gals . . . tell me everything!"

"This is a program where I can feel awkward in every situation," responded Pattinson. "I'm trying to avoid eating!"

Pattinson focused on promoting his new movie Cosmopolis, but viewers were hoping to learn about how he was managing after his publicized split with Stewart. Despite the breakup, Pattinson appeared charming and friendly on camera. He joked about splitting his Spanx and his mistake of not hiring a publicist.

Jon Stewart was amazed at the response that the interview generated. Crowds formed outside the studio, among them paparazzi and teenage fans:

“When you are young and you break up, it's powerful and it feels like the world is ending. This is the first time I have seen the world actually react that way. It's insanity.”

Earlier this summer, Stewart admitted to cheating on Pattinson with married movie director Rupert Sanders; a story which let down millions of Twilight fans. Both Sanders and Stewart released public apologies to family and friends.

Jon Stewart joked that Pattinson attracted a lot of new viewers to his show. During a bit about Mitt Romney's running mate Paul Ryan, a graphic popped up on the screen welcoming “Twilight Fans” to a program “mostly dealing with politics and media.”
