4 movie trailers with confirmed premieres during the Super Bowl, plus some rumored ones

Culture

Not only is Super Bowl Sunday a time to gather around with your friends and family to watch the big game, but it's also an opportunity to see innovative commercials, musical performances and — for movie buffs — some highly coveted film trailers.

Between the much anticipated Ghost in the Shell and Baywatch, here are some films that are expected to get the trailer treatment come Sunday.

Ghost in the Shell

The people over at Paramount must have figured we just couldn't wait until Sunday to see a new trailer for Ghost in the Shell, so they gave us an early snippet of what to expect from the sci-fi film

The short teaser doesn't show much new footage, but the end of it gives a pretty cool shot of Scarlett Johansson in full-cyborg mode. Johansson plays Major, a woman who suffered from an accident in her youth that left her part-machine.

The film is based on the Kodansha Comics manga series, and sees Johansson playing a detective in search of a dangerous hacker. Ghost in the Shell will be released in theaters on March 31.

Transformers: The Last Knight

In addition to Ghost in the Shell, Paramount has also offered up a preview of another movie getting a trailer during the Super Bowl. Michael Bay's latest Transformers film, Transformers: The Last Knight will have a spot on Sunday. As seen in the teaser, Mark Wahlberg returns to Bay's universe to save humanity against those giant and loud machines. The film also shows a snippet of Anthony Hopkins, a new addition to the series' cast.

Transformers: The Last Knight will be in theaters June 23.

Baywatch

Another major film slated to premiere a trailer during the Super Bowl is Baywatch, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. A trailer for the film has already been released ahead of its May 26 premiere date, but hopefully the Super Bowl will give us the opportunity to see new footage from the sexy film.

The Fate of the Furious

Although we're not sure exactly what's premiering during the Super Bowl, it's expected that a trailer for the eighth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise will drop. Titled The Fate of the Furious, the film reunites Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster and Ludacris. Joining the cast is Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron. The movie will come out on April 14.

Other rumored trailers

While these four films are the main ones with confirmed trailer debuts during the Super Bowl, there are speculations about other films that may get TV spots.

Some possibilities include A Cure for Wellness, which will be released later in February, and Alien: Covenant. Also — because we can't forget about Disney — we may see a peek of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Cars 3

Since we don't know exact times when these TV spots will air, it's probably a good idea to stay vigilant on Sunday.
