Navigating the world of supplements is a tricky business. While your doctor may recommend specific supplements to address vitamin deficiencies or medical conditions that are individual to your personal needs, supplements aimed at improving your skin or supporting hair growth take a more generalized approach (though you can and should still run any supplements you’re taking by your doctor first). Simplifying the process of choosing a supplement (there are more than 90,000 supplements on the market, according to the American Medical Association) is precisely what inspired clinical nutritionist Jessica Sepel to create her own line of supplements and beauty products, JSHealth Vitamins. The Australian native gained popularity as a wellness blogger and ultimately developed her supplements based on the feedback she received from her following.

Launched in 2012, JSHealth Vitamins includes a range of supplements and powders aimed at helping you with everything from achieving clearer skin and healthier hair to de-stressing and de-bloating. Designed by Sepel, each of the supplements uses science-backed ingredients and is made in Australia by TGA-certified manufacturers following Good Manufacturing Practices to guarantee that strict guidelines regarding formulation integrity and consistency are followed.

Take the brand’s quiz to find the perfect supplements for you

You should discuss any supplements you’re interested in taking with your doctor first (in fact, JSHealth Vitamins encourages this), but if you’re wondering where to start, you can take the brand’s quiz and check out some of their best-selling beauty supplements, ahead.

JSHealth Vitamins Hair + Energy

The supplement that started it all, the Hair + Energy formula boasts its proprietary complex that pairs two forms of sea kelp containing fucoidan and marine polyphenols. Sustainably harvested, the seaweed extracts included in the supplement were shown to contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that contribute to preventing hair loss and maintaining scalp health, according to JSHealth Vitamins’ researchers. Additionally, the supplement includes zinc to support the health of your hair, nails, and skin. The brand recommends taking one Hair + Energy capsule in the morning with food, and notes that you should start to see results within four to eight weeks of daily use.

JSHealth Vitamins Skin + Digestion

This supplement for clearer skin was inspired by the more recent research linking gut health to skin health. On the skin care front, JSHealth Vitamins says that its Skin + Digestion supplement includes zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin B2 to potentially help with clearing up breakouts and supporting collagen production. Turmeric, which can purportedly help with digestion and reducing inflammation, was also included in the formula. JSHealth Vitamins recommends taking this supplement twice daily (once in the morning and once in the evening) with food each time, and the brand also warns that while you may experience an increase in breakouts as your gut microbiome adjusts, you should notice clearer skin around the six to eight week mark.

JSHealth Vitamins Vitality X + Collagen Powder

While the jury might still be out as to whether or not ingestible collagen supplements can actually increase your body’s collagen production, the belief is that it might be possible. JSHealth Vitamins’ Vitality X + Collagen Powder combines collagen with vitamin C, vitamin E, and turmeric extract to further support skin health and digestion. The collagen featured in the powder is hydrolyzed, meaning it’s broken down into smaller particles that are easier for the body to absorb, and it’s sustainably sourced from wild cod (as opposed to the bovine collagen that is typically found in supplements). Though you can mix a scoop of this with your favorite smoothie, JSHealth notes that it’s been formulated with a citrus taste and sweetened with stevia, so you can stir it into water too.

JSHealth Vitamins 2-Step Vitamin Haircare System

In more recent years, the brand has also ventured into topical products that can be paired with supplements or used on their own. This shampoo and conditioner duo is formulated without sulfates, silicones, or synthetic fragrances, and both products are also cruelty-free and vegan. While the shampoo was formulated to nourish the scalp while cleansing the hair and the conditioner was formulated to moisturize and detangle, both are infused with the brand’s JSH Miracle Complex™, a mix of hair care favorites like panthenol, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, and avocado oil.

JSHealth Vitamins 4-Step Vitamin Skincare System

For a comprehensive skin care routine, this 4-Step Vitamin Skincare System includes cleansing and moisturizing products that are free from parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oil, silicones, synthetic fragrances, and synthetic colors. The cruelty-free and vegan lineup also focuses on using ingredients that are certified organic or derived from botanicals, with an emphasis on using ingredients that are soothing and gentle.

Designed to simplify the way you look at skin care, JSHealth Vitamins recommends starting your morning and evening routine with the creamy cleanser, which was formulated with soothing and moisturizing ingredients like chamomile extract, avocado oil, and aloe vera. The serum is the next step in the system, and works to brighten and hydrate with a combination of vitamin C, vitamin E, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. Then, there’s the Luminous Vitamin Oil, which uses bakuchiol, a plant-based alternative to retinol that works similarly to increase skin cell turnover and stimulate collagen production without the irritation, redness, and dryness with which retinol is typically associated. And to complete the routine, you’ll find a probiotic-infused moisturizer that helps to soothe inflammation (including acne) while nourishing and supporting the skin barrier with ingredients like aloe vera, squalane, grape seed oil, and ceramides.

A friendly reminder...

Because, at the end of the day, supplements are something that you’re ingesting, it’s important that you fully understand what it is that you’re taking and how it might impact your health. While supplements like multivitamins and fish oil are generally perceived as a good thing, that’s not always the case if, say for example, you’re taking too much of a supplement or mixing a prescription medication with something that’s incompatible. Additionally, in the U.S., dietary supplements are regulated by the FDA as food, not as drugs. That means that supplements aren’t FDA-approved to treat or prevent disease, and, most of the time, these supplements can be produced and sold by companies without ever notifying the FDA (aka anything mislabeled or deemed unsafe is usually identified after the supplement has reached the marketplace).

The bottom line? You should always speak with your doctor before adding a supplement to your routine to ensure that it’s safe for you and can be combined with any other supplements or prescribed medications that you might already be taking.
